Visit Waterford has welcomed the news that the county has once again secured top recognition from Condé Nast Traveller, marking a second consecutive year of international acclaim as Waterford is named top of the “7 Wonders of Ireland” for 2026.
The announcement builds on a strong run of global recognition for the destination and reinforces Waterford’s growing reputation among international travellers seeking authentic, experience-led destinations. The 2026 list highlights locations that offer a fresh perspective on Ireland’s landscape and culture, with Waterford’s Copper Coast and Greenway leading the way as standout attractions.
Visit Waterford said it is delighted to celebrate this latest accolade, describing it as a powerful endorsement of the county’s unique blend of coastal beauty, outdoor adventure and heritage. Being placed by Condé Nast Traveller for a second year reflects not only the quality of the visitor experience but also the continued appeal of Waterford’s landscapes on the global stage.

“At Visit Waterford, we are absolutely delighted to see the county recognised once again by Condé Nast Traveller,” said Clare Barrett, Chair of Visit Waterford. “To be named for a second consecutive year is a huge honour and a testament to the incredible natural beauty we have here, from the Copper Coast to the Greenway, and to the passion and dedication of the people and businesses who bring the visitor experience to life every day. This recognition really puts Waterford on the global stage as a must-visit destination.”
At the heart of the recognition is the journey along the Copper Coast, a stretch of shoreline shaped by its 19th-century mining past and now renowned for its dramatic scenery and unspoiled beaches. The feature highlights locations such as Trá na mBó, Stradbally Cove, the Guillamene and Kilmurrin, showcasing a coastline that remains both striking and refreshingly under the radar.
Complementing the coastal experience is the Waterford Greenway, widely regarded as one of Ireland’s leading outdoor attractions. Stretching from Waterford City to Dungarvan, the route offers visitors the opportunity to explore at a relaxed pace, passing historic railway bridges and viaducts, riverside views and the foothills of the Comeragh Mountains.

Along the way, highlights such as Mount Congreve Gardens is featured by Conde Nast Traveller, along with The Hat Maker boutique hotel, reflecting a destination that continues to innovate while staying true to its character.
“As more travellers look for meaningful and immersive experiences, Waterford offers something truly special,” Clare Barrett added. “Whether it’s cycling the Greenway, exploring hidden coves along the coast, or simply taking time to enjoy the scenery and hospitality, there is a sense of discovery here that really resonates with visitors.”
Visit Waterford noted that achieving placement for a second consecutive year is a testament to the collective efforts of local communities, tourism providers and businesses across the county. It also signals a broader shift in how Ireland is being experienced internationally, with increasing interest in destinations that offer authenticity, natural beauty and a strong sense of place.
As momentum continues to build, Visit Waterford looks forward to welcoming visitors from around the world to experience the landscapes, stories and warm welcome that have once again earned the county its place as one of Ireland’s true wonders.
