Bad news for travelers: Ryanair has announced the cancellation of all its flights to and from the Azores, often referred to as the “European Hawaii.” This decision came into effect on March 29, 2026.

Thousands of travelers affected
Ryanair will no longer operate flights between the Azores and cities such as Dublin, London, Brussels, Porto, and Lisbon. In total, around 400,000 passengers per year will be impacted, with six routes being completely removed. This significantly reduces direct access to this highly sought-after Portuguese archipelago.

A decision driven by rising costs
The airline justifies this move by pointing to increased airport charges imposed by the French airport operator ANA. According to Ryanair, these rising costs have made flights to the Azores less profitable, forcing the airline to adjust its strategy.
With the disappearance of these direct flights, travelers will now have to turn to other airlines or opt for connecting flights to reach the Azores.
At the same time, Ryanair continues to expand elsewhere, notably with the addition of a new aircraft based in Newcastle for summer 2026. New routes to destinations such as Budapest, Malta, and Marrakech have been announced, along with increased frequencies on several European routes.
In short: if you were planning a trip to the Azores, it’s best to start looking at alternatives now.
