- Are you ready for TedFest? Ireland’s funniest festival
Get ready for four extraordinary days! From Thursday 5 to Sunday 8 March, the legendary TedFest takes place on Inis Mór, part of the Aran Islands. If you don’t know what it is, we’ll explain everything so you don’t miss this completely bonkers event! What is TedFest? TedFest is an annual festival, held since 2007, dedicated to the cult Irish sitcom Father Ted and it brings together hundreds of fans every year. The event takes place on Inis Mór, off the coast of County Galway, Ireland. If you’re not familiar with the series, it follows three priests exiled for various reasons to Craggy Island. You follow their hilariously chaotic adventures as they try to help the island’s residents. For several days, the island lives to the rhythm of quirky activities inspired directly by the show’s humor. The atmosphere is friendly, festive, and delightfully absurd! What exactly are we doing there? The program changes every year, but some events have become unmissable festival classics, such as: The Lovely Girls competition The legendary Craggy Island céilí (a throwback to 1950s parish dances) The iconic Craggy Cup (5-a-side football where all “divine” tactics are allowed) An evening at the Las Vegas nightclub hosted by Father Billy Dwyer, Spinmaster presenter Ted’s Got Talent (a parody of Britain’s Got Talent) And even a priests’ dance competition (yes, really) And much more. One thing is certain: you won’t be bored. A truly unique experience where originality and the unconventional become the norm. How to get there? There are several ways to reach Inis Mór: By ferry from Rossaveel (40 min) By ferry from Doolin (35 min) By plane from Connemara Airport (10 min) Where to stay during TedFest If you want the full Craggy Island experience, you can camp on Inis Mór. If you prefer more comfort, choose glamping, a guesthouse, or a hotel on the island. You can find all accommodation options on the Aran Islands website . Tip: book early. The festival attracts many visitors and accommodation fills up quickly. On the island, you’ll also find everything you need: an ATM, drinks, food, and clothing at SPAR. So you have no excuse not to go and experience something completely wild! Bring your best friend, your favorite rosary, and pack your bags for a once-in-a-lifetime event. Laughter, connection, and chaos guaranteed for unforgettable memories. And beyond the festival, enjoy the island’s spectacular landscapes, with dramatic cliffs and wild nature typical of the Irish coast. See you there? Secure your place via the TedFest website !
- Outlander in Scotland: 5 Must-Visit Filming Locations
If you, like me, have devoured this series, chances are you’ll want to immerse yourself in its world when visiting Scotland. On the occasion of the release of the latest season of Outlander on March 7, 2026 (yes, it’s almost the end…), follow in the footsteps of Claire and Jamie through the most beautiful settings of the show! Midhope Castle (Lallybroch) I’ll start with probably one of my FAVORITE locations, and also the most famous in the series: Lallybroch! These scenes were filmed at the 15th-century Midhope Castle, perfectly capturing the atmosphere of the series. The interior isn’t open to visitors, but the exterior is enough to relive those iconic moments (you know which ones I mean…). The site is so popular that it has become ticketed… but that won’t stop us from hoping to spot Jamie, right? A must-visit location full of emotion, surrounded by Scotland’s stunning landscapes. Additionally, if you want to extend your Lallybroch experience, cottages will be available from spring 2026, and you can enjoy a special discount by joining the waiting list! Doune Castle (Castle Leoch) Castle Leoch of the MacKenzie clan actually exists! The scenes were filmed at Doune Castle, and you can visit it! (Yay!) Its massive walls, large courtyard, and medieval rooms instantly transport you into the series’ world. This location appears frequently, especially in season 1 when Claire is “the MacKenzies’ guest” upon arriving in 17th-century Scotland. Another reason you need to go there: the audio guide commentary was recorded by Sam Heughan (Jamie) himself! (Personally, that’s reason enough for me to visit.) Hopetoun House Do you remember this wonderful castle? It’s the Duke of Sandringham’s estate, seen several times between seasons 1 and 3, most notably in that duel scene between the Duke and the MacDonalds, where Jamie gets hurt! (Hands off Jamie!) This fabulous location is real, it was filmed at Hopetoun House, near South Queensferry. You can visit this magnificent 18th century castle and its grounds, surrounded by several trails, between April and September, perfect for a stroll and spotting local wildlife. Plus, enjoy plenty of activities, including geocaching, orienteering, and educational workshops for children. Everything you need for a perfect family day while immersing yourself even more in the history and world of Outlander. Blackness Castle (Fort William) A castle you won’t easily forget, thanks to the very striking courtyard scene in season 1, where Jamie receives a hundred lashes from Captain Randall (I’m still traumatized). Nevertheless, this castle is impossible to miss its distinctive architecture, reminiscent of a ship’s hull, and its mysterious atmosphere give it a captivating charm. Linlithgow Palace (Wentworth Prison) Another jewel of Scotland’s heritage is the famous Linlithgow Palace, which in the series serves as Wentworth Prison (yes, you know exactly which scene I mean…). It’s here that Jamie suffers Randall’s abuse at the end of season 1… If we set aside that dreadful episode, I assure you this castle is well worth a visit! Although the site is now in ruins, it remains a place steeped in Scottish history it is notably where Mary, Queen of Scots, was born. This castle is a must-see if you’re staying here, attracting many visitors beyond Outlander fans, of course. Bonus : The battlefield of Culloden For devoted fans of the series and lovers of Scotland, this is also the site of a major battle in the country’s history and an absolute must-see. The series scenes were not filmed there, of course, but at Cumbernauld Glen, between Glasgow and Falkirk. However, one scene was filmed on the battlefield itself, the moment when Claire visits the Fraser Clan memorial at the end of season 2 of Outlander. It’s a moment that encourages us to explore the historical past of Scotland and the Highlands. You can visit this site steeped in history, as well as its museum, which retraces the events of the battle. When you go, you’ll be able to see the Fraser Clan memorial, which is often adorned with flowers left by fans of the series. These filming locations offer much more than just a backdrop. They allow you to experience history at the heart of authentic landscapes. With the final season releasing on March 7, it’s the perfect time to set off and discover the Scottish lands. And if you don’t want to handle the logistics of an Outlander road trip, guided tours are available with Highlander Tours or on GetYourGuide ! Visit the series’ most iconic locations without worrying about a thing.
- No Myth Here - The Unicorn Delivers in Dublin 2
Pasta being tossed over open flames as we walked into the kitchen, fresh shavings of truffle layered generously onto a perfectly creamy risotto, standout fish and desserts indulgent enough to send you happily into a food coma - that was our lunch at The Unicorn on Merrion Court. With chef Kristan Burness bringing serious energy to the pass and a new pre-theatre menu now in play, this Dublin 2 staple feels nothing like routine dining and, in true Unicorn fashion, more like a fantasy for your palate. Our recent visit was centred around the new pre-theatre menu, a fantastic addition for those heading into town for a show or simply looking for a special early-evening experience. From viewing the menu (€32 for a two-course meal and €38 for three) it became immediately clear that this is far from a scaled-down offering or a compromise on quality. Instead, it is a well-rounded showcase of what the restaurant does best, delivering real value while maintaining a strong emphasis on carefully sourced local and artisan ingredients that elevate each dish. We began with Burrata di Bufala, an artisanal burrata with heritage tomato and basil, as well as West Cork scallops, which came presented with Hicks black pudding as well as apple & prosecco - two starters that set the tone beautifully. The burrata was indulgently creamy, and the scallops were delicately cooked, sweet and tender. During this time service was attentive and quick. For the mains, we were served Linguine Piccanti ai Gamberoni, which we actually had the pleasure of seeing cooked live. Chef Kristan Burness was at the stove as we stepped into the kitchen - “It’s been a dream of mine to come back and finish what I started here ten years ago. This place has always meant something special to me and I’m proud to build on what we began,” he said. Burness clearly runs a tight kitchen but does it with enthusiasm. Watching him work gave real insight into the precision & thought behind the dishes. That combination comes through in the food - it’s generous and well executed. This meal delivered exactly what it promised with gentle heat, fresh seafood, and pasta cooked to a perfect al dente bite. Next up was the Risotto con Funghi e Tartufo, which we had high hopes for after the team at The Unicorn highlighted this was their favourite dish. It did not disappoint! The fresh shavings of truffle combined with the creaminess and texture of the risotto was absolutely incredible, and a standout dish at this restaurant. Of course, we couldn’t leave without trying some seafood beyond scallops and shrimp. Our red mullet mains were served with a healthy dash of greens and some thinly sliced potatoes. This fish was very delicate and had soaked up the light sauce on the plate well. Even if you have theatre plans looming, dessert here is non-negotiable. The tiramisu was classic and generous served with some nuts on top and was delightfully fluffy. The apple tart is the ideal choice for someone looking for a bit of warm comfort food especially during Dublin' s rainier spells, and the lemon tart was sharp with a delicate, flamed crust and presentation so pretty it was almost a shame to eat. As for the space itself, the dining room remains one of The Unicorn’s strengths. It’s quiet, intimate and ideal for conversation. Service was attentive and genuinely thoughtful throughout. The adjoining No.5 Bar is also worth highlighting, as it makes for a great pre-dinner drink spot or somewhere to linger after your meal. Another major plus is its central Merrion Court location in Dublin 2. It’s incredibly easy to get to with the Luas, Dart & multiple bus connections nearby, and is perfectly placed for when you’re heading into town, going to a show, or making a full night of it. Being so well connected makes it a great choice. As Mariana de Lima, the General Manager of the Restaurant, put it - “The Unicorn is an institution in Dublin’s dining history” is something we hear often from our guests. Many have been coming for years, and others who grew up hearing stories are now part of the journey themselves. The history is palpable, and the connection people feel is nostalgic in the best way, and we’re proud to be building the next chapter of that legacy.” Special Deals & Events With Mother’s Day approaching, the restaurant is preparing a dedicated three-course menu (€55 per person) - a lovely opportunity to treat mam to a proper Italian meal. Blending the finest Irish produce with confident Italian craftsmanship, the menu offers dishes that that are both elegant and refined. Begin with vibrant starters such as artisanal burrata or sautéed king prawns with ’nduja butter. Mains include wild mushroom and black truffle risotto, free-range chicken cacciatore, fresh cod with lobster jus, and dry-aged Irish sirloin served with Chianti jus. To finish, guests can linger over hazelnut and chocolate tiramisu, Valrhona chocolate fondant, or caramelised apple tart with salted caramel. The Unicorn is also a great shout for a proper girly wine and dine experience. You can enjoy a drink in the No.5 Bar, big bowls of pasta for the table, a round (or two) of tiramisu, and once again an intimate dining space that feels perfect for birthdays, catch-ups or just an overdue night out. The Unicorn continues to do what it does best, with quality Italian cooking, a fabulous atmosphere and a chef who brings real energy to the pass, alongside staff who make the experience extra special. Interested in dining at The Unicorn? The pre-theatre menu is priced at €32 for a 2-course meal, and €38 for a 3-course meal. The Mother’s Day menu is priced at €55 for a 3-course meal. To view the menu and to make a reservation, visit www.unicornrestaurant.ie Thank you to The Unicorn for inviting us in to preview the new menu. From the kitchen energy to the truffle-topped risotto and beautifully cooked seafood, the food spoke for itself. Service was attentive and welcoming throughout, making the whole experience feel easy and enjoyable. It’s a spot we’d confidently recommend, and one we’ll happily return to.
- Step into Westeros: Visit the filming locations of the new series The Knight of the Seven Kingdoms
The Game of Thrones prequel was released last month on HBO Max. Follow the adventures of Dunk, a wandering knight, and the orphan Egg. The story takes place 89 years before the beginning of Game of Thrones and 77 years after House of the Dragon . If you’re a fan of this medieval world and vast forests, head to Northern Ireland to discover the filming locations and behind-the-scenes stories! Mourne Mountains, County Down It is one of the most recognizable locations from the first episode and even appears on the series’ official poster. The Mourne Mountains offer a spectacular panoramic view that perfectly matches the show’s epic aesthetic. The site features several hiking routes accessible to all levels. From the Sandbank Road car park, more athletic visitors can climb the peaks, while others may prefer to stay on the trails for a gentler walk. In both cases, the sense of immersion is complete. Anecdote: Don’t look for the solitary twisted tree… because it isn’t real. It was molded and built in England, then transported to Hen Mountain and secured with cement blocks so it wouldn’t move. (Don’t worry, the blocks were later removed to preserve the landscape.) Glenarm Estate, County Antrim Here, the estate represents Ashford Meadow and was notably used for the jousting tournament scenes thanks to its vast gardens. From April to October, visitors can explore the magnificent gardens, while access to the castle itself is limited to a few dates, as it is still inhabited by the current Viscount. If you wish to extend your stay, you can also book accommodation within the estate. Choose between luxurious sea-view glamping pods, charming stone cottages, or the Barbican Gate, a 19th-century gatekeeper’s house. Anecdote: A bridge was built and later dismantled for filming, and a stable was installed on site to host the horses and around sixty stunt riders involved in the production. Tollymore Forest Park Located in County Down at the foot of the Mourne Mountains, Tollymore Forest Park is one of the most iconic natural sites used for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms . The Crownlands, already a key setting in Game of Thrones , appear once again in this new series. Walking through this landscape instantly evokes the medieval and heroic atmosphere that defines the show. Anecdote: Tollymore remains one of the most popular and most visited filming locations in Northern Ireland. Myra Castle Although the castle cannot be visited as it is private property, it remains an unmissable historic site. In the series, it serves two roles: representing Ashford Castle while also appearing in scenes set in Flea Bottom at King’s Landing. If the location looks familiar, that’s because it also portrayed the seat of House Bolton in Game of Thrones . Situated near Downpatrick in County Down, the castle can be admired from the Lecale Way walking route. A perfect place to recharge… and who knows, you might cross paths with Dunk and Egg. While A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms may be more modest in scale, its landscapes are no less essential, relying very little on CGI. Northern Ireland offers settings that feel both ancient and emotionally charged, making it the perfect backdrop for a tale of wandering knights. Season 2 is already confirmed. Personally, I cannot wait to see what comes next. And you?
